Space and Place

Suffolk Rivers

I have photographed a variety of Suffolk's rivers in this project during the times of sunrise and sunset. I found this project interesting, as when I was photographing, I was watching the landscape around the river, turn from dark to light and from light to dark. I wanted to express this within my images, so I used a neutral density filter so that I could use a slow shutter speed, to blur the sky's movement as it changes colour.  I chose to photograph these rivers at vantage points which usually get missed. For this I was researching in to walking trails around the rivers, which are perhaps more challenging to get to and are avoided by some. For each river I looked at the contextual, historical and visual elements of that location which enabled me to learn a lot more about what was used on the rivers during the 18th and 19th centuries for shipping goods across.
